Recently I’ve been head down, bum up so to speak. The blog has had a little break as I’ve been buried in text books for the first time in 10 years. And oh how different if feels this time around!
I’ve always loved learning – and it’s so much more rewarding when the topics and subjects fascinate me. As some of you know, I’m currently completing my Life Coaching international accreditation. So EVERYTHING in this course interests me! I feel so lucky that I’ve found something I love and want to learn more about. Gone are the days of begrudgingly studying statistics or hauling myself into a dry business lecture. Now I get to study coaching human potential and I am so eager for class (verging on the side of un-cool, but luckily I study from home so I can be as nerdy as I like!) Coaching is all about relating, listening, language, questioning and strategising. Now those are subjects that really float my boat.
What I’m realising though, is whether I’m in a course or not, I am always learning. I look back over the last decade without official study and cannot believe how much I’ve learned! They don’t call them ‘life lessons’ for nothing. We are always growing and expanding on our notion of self, the world, and our place in it.
“The Ritual of Abundant Knowledge. It centres on the whole notion of lifelong learning and expanding your knowledge base for the good of yourself and all those around you. It’s about becoming a student of life.”
How are you expanding your mind right now? Are you trying new things, or having conversations that stretch you? Are you reading enlightening material? Are you challenging yourself at work? Or perhaps you are learning more about yourself in some way? Knowledge comes in all shapes and sizes, and it all contributes to enlightenment.
“Read regularly. Reading for thirty minutes a day will do wonders for you. You will quickly start to see the vast reserves of knowledge available for your use. But you must be very selective about what you put into the lush garden of your mind. It must be immensely nourishing. Make it something that will improve both you and the quality of your life.” – Robin Sharma
Reading acts not only as an escape but also a great tool to better ourselves. Commit to reading daily. The last thing before you go to sleep and the first thing in the morning are the most opportune times to nourish your mind. Try and get into the habit of reading right before bed as you’re mind is able to absorb and digest information so much more, plus as an added bonus you will sleep like a baby!
“The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read.” – Mark Twain
But as always, it’s what we do with this knowledge that is important. You’ve heard the old saying, knowledge is power but it involves far more than that. Knowledge is only potential power. For the power to be manifested, it must be applied.
I’m itching to get back with my clients and share all this wonderful knowledge I’m accruing. Because the power is in the implementation of what you learn, not in the learning itself. I’m here to share my knowledge and help others live a life they love.
What are you here for? What gift can you share with the world?
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
– Nelson Mandela
